Didn't intend to jump back in but after reading the posts thought I add a couple memories.
At Anderson AFB, Guam 1963 there was a Philapino band at the club that sounded like each original band when they did a different number. Evidently they’d buy the record and practice till they had it. Amazing!
Charles Davis, if you were at LBSC, as I was 1966-68 you may have been there when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band played, just before Ron Karanga set the campus off, around 1967 I think. Being ex-GI I wasn’t amused by that commotion.
And, Mark Englebretson, thanks for mentioning KOMA. I started listening to that station in 1962 in Texas and was very happy to discover we could get it at Mountain Home AFB, ID. Being native SoCal I thought Dick Dale and the Deltones was it. KOMA introduced me to Jimmy Reed-style blues and I’ve never recovered, thankfully. I keep thinking I should be able to get KOMA on this computer but never seem to take the time.
All the groups mentioned were great and isn’t it nice that we can occasionally catch remnants at the Indian casinos now. Incidentally, what happened to music in these later years?
