To those who are interested, here is the truthful story concerning my purchase of the Sans Souccis.
About a month ago I saw a listing for a box of assorted Sans Soucci chips. As most of you know, I am a seller of obsolete chips on eBay. I saw these chips as an opportunity to add to my inventory of salable chips. I intended to sell a few sets a year over the next 10 years. I inquired to the seller before I purchased whether they were all she had and she assured me they were. I bid accodingly and they ended up costing me just about $2900 given shipping and insurance.
I offered these chips to my better customers for $230 a set which included shipping and insurance.
On Friday I was informed by the seller that she had found another box and wanted to sell it to me for the same price as the first box. I informed her that she had stated previously that the first box was all she had and that finding a second box made the chips I had purchased worth far less than when I bid on them. After a back and forth of communications she finaly stated she would not sell them. I now hear that she is offering them privately. I still have no knowledge of the exact number of each denomination in the second box.
Not being an overly trusting person, I contacted my customers who had purchased their sets at $230 and stated the facts and offered refund of the difference between what they paid and a new price based on my new knowledge of the find which was $130. One of my buyers purchased a second set and another opted for refund.
Being very disgusted with the whole situation, I offered 23 sets on this Chip Board feeling that it was still a very good price even if the second box surfaced.
I am a very ethical person and go out of my way to treat people fairly. I have 2 negative feedbacks on eBay out of thousands of sales. One is from a dealer (Old Vegas Chips) who accused me of bait and switch on a $5 USD condition chip. I stated I had just aquired a new scanner and that MY file handling was possbly at fault and offered a full refund. He would have nothing to do with that and called me a liar twice. Well, he pushed a button and I blocked him from my sales. I stated to him that I saw the way he treated people on this board and that he always takes the low road and that I always try and take the high road in my dealings with people. When he dicovered it, he gave me bad feedback. I think his ego was damaged. Now I see he has angered a chipper that really has issues with him. That chipper is one of my occasional customers and I have nothing to do with the obvious attacks going on back and forth. I can understand the anger because of the way Pete handles his problems. I was involved with him personally, but no more.
The other bad feedback was a chip that was late in the mail. My customer demanded replacement after two weeks. I told him to wait 30 days as that is what the PO demands when a package is insured (which it wasn't) and at that time we would discuss replacement. He had no patience or understanding and left bad feedback. When the 30 days were up, I inquired if the chip had arrived. He stated no and I replaced it.
Well, enough of this. I still have sets of the Sans Souccis available to those who would like a great addition to there collection. As I stated, the $130 price includes Insured shipping and is a fair price for collectors (maybe not dealers looking to resell in the short haul). Also, I welcome comments regarding how I have handled this situation and I am sure my Sans Soucci customers will back me up. The bottom line is that I have a concience and understand how to treat people the way I would want to be treated.
Thanks for listening to my rambling.
