I don't know of any feature on IE, Netscape or Opera that will block all emails except those in your address book. Besides what if someone new writes to you?
The Bulk mail folders on SBC/Yahoo have been improved, once again, and I now get 172 messages in "spam" (the bulk folder) and just 8 real messages, when I login. It's possible that your provider has some service like this.
Look for Web Based Mail, which means you can access it on the web, before it touches your computer. Then you delete the junk and only download what you want.
Here's one, that charges something around $3 a month. It has an affiliate program.

When you get a message you mark it as OK on your list, if not it gets dumped. The system learns your acceptable contacts.
Last possible idea, check you mail on one of the FREE web based access ponts. http://www.mail2web.com allows you to view your inbox from anywhere, any computer and then you can click and delete the junk mail, then proceed to download from your regular service, without all that Spam.
I'm sure there are others.
