These are from Beverly Hills Country Club, in Newport, KY. I have seen a lot of matchbooks from this club but I have never seen this one till now, it is a self striking pack, as soon as you pull the match out of the pack, it lights. This doesn't look to be a cheap pack to have made, I wonder if they were only given out to big shots or high rollers. I received these two packs along with quite a few other nice BH items from a guy who wants to remain anonymous, but he was the personal body guard to the man that ran Beverly for the guys in Cleveland. This guy called me up one day and told me he heard I collected old casino stuff, and he had some old things from Beverly, would I like to have them. (wow, how often does that happen) So I met with him one evening, ended up staying for 3 ½ hours. The stories came one after the other almost without pause. Then he started bringing out photo albums of him and a lot of the other key Cleveland people, there were also lots of photos of him and boys from Detroit, Chicago, and New York. He told me that whenever other "Mob" guys would come to town they would be put up in the best hotels and treated to the shows, restaurants, and other "entertainment J " while here. I plan to get together with this guy again to see if I can get some more history, there were a lot of things he started to tell me and then decided, " ahhh, I better not tell you that one". Sometimes the stories are worth more than the chips, dice matches, and all the other stuff put together.
