Hi Rich!
I just typed this whole message and closed the window by accident. Now I have to do it over :( LOL
Anyways haven't talked to you in awhile hope you are doing good.
I am going to make it a short run down because I can't type on the chipboard all daylong.
These #'s are from memory.
Step 1 : We bought from a guy 12 PC 10 cents chips as UFC , I think for around $1000 for lot or $50 each something like that. He told us they where from a place on the strip , and I had a feeling they where from Nevada somewhere. So we took the chance.
Step 2 : We got them id from TR king and they turned out to be Pioneer Club. So we offered them forsale.
Step 3: As soon as we did that , our source said we ripped him off and he has 12 more anyways he didn't sell em all too us. He listed them on ebay and I think you are right the average was 100-150.
But I also think people where scared because they thought there might be more of them out there then there where.
Step 4: I went back to my web site , updated the information back then including the chips he said he had and made it to a total of 24 known chips. Do you know anybody that does have more?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
In conclusion: I don't think just because I a chip brings 150 on ebay doesn't mean I have to sell the chip for $150. Do me this is a great chip because : Its Downtown 1940's , Las Vegas , Fractional , and Pioneer Club. And 24 is not a lot of a chip to me for those category;s , I think the chip is worth $450 and I am sure eventually I will get buyers for the once that I have left which is only 3 or 4 i believe.
I traded a couple of them and got some really nice chips for them. And I even sold some of them.
We both know that there is chip selling on ebay all the time for 200-300 that bring or being asked at shows 600-700 . I think ebay is great to move more common chips at but for rare stuff its the place to buy.
I see my collection and my inventory as a investment. And I don't mind keeping chips that I think will go up in value. I want the value of my collection to increase. If Spend $5000 this year on chips and in 5 years they are still worth $5000 it sucks to me.
I remember when the cure chip came out I sold them for $225. And some people where upset and said it a rip off and I am chargeing to much. But to me that was a great chip. It didn't make a difference If I sold them today or on the future.
I let supply and demand solve the issue. I did sell them all and now I am sitting here and I wish I didn't. Because I can only find them on josh's web site and it would cost me $550.
I sold my Cinco Chip for $600 because everyone said it was a crazy price , now it would cost me $2200
So if a chip is rare I like to keep it, I can always trade it for cool stuff.
I give the customer all the information I have about a chip. Then tell them what I want for it.
And its up to them to decide if they feel its fair , and if its not, no hard feelings. Who knows maybe they can get it cheapers somewhere else. And just maybe they wish they woulda bought it for $450 when they had the chance.
