I checked my Cuban chips against the "1998" ones, and I can report:
(1) the Paulson Riviera inlay is identical or virtually identical to the real old ones (except for the 1998 date, of course);
(2) the Paulson (again assuming it is Paulson) Tropicana inlay is the same style as the real old ones, but the old ones I have do not have dollar amounts or the word Havana or Habana; and
(3) the Capri inlays are identical or virtually identical to the old ones, as I said in another BB posting in this thread.
As John Benedict told me, an unscrupulous dealer could place the real old ones next to the new "1998" ones to aid a sale, to "prove" that the 1998 ones are "real"!!
(An amusing side note is how these old Cuban chips have taken a beating. Once they were sold for $100's and even over a $1000. Then the market became flooded with REAL ones, and the prices fell to way under $100. Now with this stuff, the prices might fall uner $10!)
Paulson is making Borland look like a saint by comparison. At least Borland made original inlay designs for his fantasy chips.
