That is very possibly true. However, my first couple of chip purchases were not at auction. They were on consignment by a reputable dealer at a gift shop and were overpriced. It would have been nice if there had been an experienced collector there to whisper in my ear that it was too much. If I can avoid learning my lessons the hard way, I do.
