Neat stuff about Deadwood...
In Response To: for trade So. Dakota & Iowa for trade ()

Nice to know Deadwood is putting a little effort in to chips. In 1971 and early 1972, I was going to college at BHSC at Spearfish. My roomate and fraternity brother, Bill Featheringill was tending bar for Lou Keuhn(Probably spelled it wrong) at the Old Style #10 in Deadwood. He broke his leg, major compound fracture. I needed the money so I went and asked if I could take Bill's place while he was recovering. Sho' nuf'. Just a booming business then and they didn't have any gaming. Loud Rock and Roll(well nothing is too much different today). One night when we were cleaning up we found a wooden leg and all the straps...Nobody ever did come back and claim it. Some fond memories!! Lou died a couple years ago. I met him about three years ago and he remembered my first name and my sense of humor. Just a major player in the Deadwoood thing.

Another bit of Trivia about Deadwood. Bill Walsh that owns the Franklin Hotel was a Catholic priest in Cavour South Dakota. That was 9 miles east of where I grew up in Huron, SD. We used to call Cavour, "The Cesspool of Crime and Violence." He was one of three catholic Priests in order to give up the Priesthood after experiencing Cavour. He bought the Franklin Hotel at a sheriff's auction and was just scraping by trying to remodel it and promote it as a place for skiers to stay cheap. He was a major player in the "Deadwood, you bet" campaign to get the SD legislature to let them have gaming. At that point Deadwood was a wasteland...Places boarded up, windows broke out...Should have been there and bought it all up for peanuts. The block where the Wild West is could have been had for about $30,000.
