Mr."P"
What an individual pays for a chip on ebay IS NOT reflective of what the chip is worth. There is a hard core contingent who buy and sell on ebay made up of 20 or 30 individuals who WAIT for a "good" chip to be listed and than try to "steal" it for a fraction of its value.
For example, just recently a 50 cent Louisiana Club was listed on Ebay. ANYONE who seriously collects 50 cent chips KNOWS that chip is a $2,500 to $3,000 chip. Yet, when the bidding exceeded the value listed in Campiglia's book the deep pocket collector(s) quit bidding. WHY???? Only two explanations are feasible. One, they didn't know how valuable the chip really is. If they did - trust me they would not have quit bidding; or two - they couldn't steal it and therefore would just wait for another "bargain" to come their way.
Trust me Jim - because some collectors have deep pockets doesn't mean they know what a chip is really worth. If they did, the chip I'm discussing would NEVER have gone for less than 2G.
My guess is - In this case, David just blew it!!!!!
Having knowledge of how many are floating around; who is selling it; how many were found; etc. etc. etc. is the start in analyzing what the value of a chip really is.
Where's the fork?????????????
