I am not interested in getting into a prolonged debate over something as trivial as whether a "boycott" is good or bad, but -- Hey, if it is good enough for Jesse Jackson and the anti-world trade bunch it ought to be good enough for any liberal.
It seems to me the logical flaw in Justice Holmes' quote is that it assumes all people are motived to not only seek "the truth" but follow it where ever it leads, regardless of the pain. It also assumes that they have the basic knowledge and understanding of the rules of logic to successfully undertake the task. A further assumption is that they have the time sort through all conflicting opinions of self appointed "truth sayers" to glean the facts (something few suburban parents -- or spikey haired writers for that matter -- have).
It has been my experience, in this day & age of "if it feels good, do it" morality and semi-literate high school graduates, that "expediency" & "easy way out" tend to win out over "truth & justice". I was going to add "the American Way" but the thought struck me that expediency probably is now the "American Way".
