Mike; Yes, you are correct. The liquid with the Q-tip you mentioned was nail polish remover. I'm sure anyone could do a chipboard search to find that thread.
I also recall the thread about those altered River City chips. I too was suckered by some Castaways chips which had the "ZAB" cancellation removed. Bob Mera, who operated the chip store on the A.C. Boardwalk, had a quantity of these chips with removed cancellations. Some of the bolder ZAB hot stamps left a slight impression in the chip where the hot stamp was removed. Quite a few of the chips with lighter hot stamp impressions were very difficult to detect that they had been removed.
My advice ... "DON'T DO IT". Reputations among chipper friends are far more valuable than making a few measly dollars. I don't hold Mr. Whelan in very high esteem because of his "alterations". It is my personal opinion that he has done the hobby a grave dis-service. Evidently,those who continue to do business with him think otherwise.
