I was thinking of doing the same thing in Chicago. There are a couple of inexpensive local paperss, there is also an antique national newspaper. I wonder if it's worth it? I'd certainly be willing to experiment. Other than the one respsonse in a small town, what could I expect in Chicagoland with a population of about 8.5 million? Not that they all read the same papers!
