Let's say I see an item I want to bid on and no else has bid on it, the minimum bid is $10. I bid $100. On ebay, the current bid will be $10. Then someone comes along and bids $11 and that bid will be recorded in the bid history. eBay will then proxy bid for me at $12 and record it in the history. There is no way to know for sure, although bidding times will give you a fairly good idea, if I made 2 separate bids or if I made 1 bid and eBay proxy bid the 2nd bid for me.
