Re: GENE BJ TOURNAMENT QUESTION

Al, this BJ tournament may be the first one for quite a few members in the club. I encourage you to review the info on the club website, as Pete suggested, at:
http://www.ccgtcc.com/convention/convention.htm#bj

I can say that playing BJ in a tournament is somewhat different than playing live BJ. There are books, or at least chapters, writted on BJ tournament strategy, so I won't try to go into it in the depth that you'd find in those books, but here's a few basics:

1. The goal in BJ tournaments is to survive and advance to the next & final rounds by coming in 1st or 2nd (initial rounds) or 1st (next round) in order to get a chance at the prize money in the final round. You're playing against the other 5 people at your table, so your goal is just to out-play those players, not the whole group of tables.

2. Position is important, so the player who acts first rotates each time. If you're ahead, you might coast by making minimum bets until/unless someone catches you, or alternately, you may need to risk your whole stack to stay in the running.

3. How you play your cards (hit, stand, split, etc.) may change as well, based on what other players have done. Remember that you're always playing against those other 5 players, not the house, and not the other tables.
