Here is a 4th opinion.

Mike,
Personally, I see nothing wrong with your scenario. In fact, when I ran one of the Red Cross Auctions here on TCB in the wake of 9/11, I did the same thing. I asked the auction winner to send the check to me instead of directly to the Red Cross. I then wrote a personal check and funneled it through the charitable giving program at work. My employer then matched the contribution.
No Fuss, No Muss and No Second Thoughts.
