The $5 denomination mustard color Hacienda chip has 19 repetitions of rectangles in the mold and depicts a pink rider on a yellow horse. The Ebay pre-auction estimate was $4-5,000 and after the final bid was accepted it held the distinction of the most expensive chip ever sold.
“I bought this chip at a flea market in Ohio. At the time I had no idea it was so rare,” says Jim Steffner, a life-long collector of casino chips.” Since the Hacienda was the first casino hotel to be imploded in Las Vegas and is now the site of Mandalay Bay made this particular chip so appealing.”
The 11th annual Casino Chips & Gaming Tokens Collectors Club convention will be held on June 25-28, 2003 at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Established in 1988, the CC>CC is a non-profit organization with more than 2,700 members from all 50 states and eight foreign countries.
