I think durability was the problem. The ones with the plastic insert like the Longstreet and the Royal Seas had problems with pieces of the insert breaking out. I imagine it is hard to keep a slot machine running when little bits of plastic are falling off here and there gumming up the works. I'm not sure what the problem was with the other two types in your photo.
