Public domain is an area where the public have access to the item, it does not imply they have the right to use it but people assume they do. That is why you have media for the 'public domain' and media for 'public domain use.' They are different. Techincally it is illegal for us to copy and paste a cnn.com story on a forum but as long as proper credit is given, there is never a problem.
Yes, I have read the rprevious thread concerning the use Pete's images. I, for one, feel that it is your responsibility to track down any infringement of your copy right should you release it into the public domain and therefore Pete was correct to as for it to removed.
However, I also find this whole topic amusing as the issue is of insignificant relevence to the hobby but it has stirred many emotions here. Furthermore, I found you example non relevant as the analogy relied on incompatible similarities.
I would like to apologies for calling it rediculous but I found it so wayward from the subject that I felt compelled to post about it. Again, sorry, perhaps I was a bit harsh using such a strong term as 'rediculous'.
