Perhaps there needs to be another club board position. Someone in charge of publicity and media. If the club is going to be run like a business, the promotion of it needs to be more than the magazine, patches, club chips and other items that are only going to be available to club members through the magazine or at shows and the convention.
Information distribution needs to be coordinated in a manner that will reach the largest possible audience. Knowledge of as many media contacts as there are concerning gaming in general would be of great help. Maybe regular columns or articles concerning our hobby could be sent to not just publications that deal with our hobby, but also entertainment editors of newspapers in areas that are close to or in legalized gaming districts. ....there should have been television coverage of the convention on the nightly news in Vegas, at least one story, be it 60 seconds long on one broadcast....something would have better than nothing.
Given that we are spread all over the country, distribution of club information would have to be constructed one brick at a time to local media sources, but it could be done.
I might rambling here....got back from a very wet area of Kansas yesterday, but I also spent the weekend with people who make their living making sure that promotional information goes where its needed. I'm in my 4th season spending time in the press box at NHRA drag racing events, and I've learned a lot about marketing and information distribution from these folks.
