Re: Coin Shows Yes and No
In Response To: Re: Coin Shows ()

My experience has been mixed. You will find some dealers who will have old poker chips for outrageous prices. Usually I can find Strikes for $11. Common $1 tokens $3 and up. Ivory chips seem to be slightly above values, just like premium coins.

CHIPS - I have found bargain boxes which have everything from Paulson store chips, to TR King fantasy, Puerto Rico, cruise, plus tribal casino chips, mixed in with older Atlantic City. You need to hunt through every chip, carefully.

You need to stop at each table and ask if they have anything casino related or old poker chips. Most will not have them out, if they have a chip or token book. Most dealers are friendly and will smile and say no. Some will look at you like you are a bip infected alien from Mars.

It's worth going, and worth the effort. I seldom go to a coin show, even a tiiny one, that I don't find something that I "need". grin

Last of all my favorite. Big box marked 1.5 times face, any chip. I've seen this twice now. That means I grab one of everything $2.50 and down, that has any chance of being a trader or for my collection. The guy totals it and multiplies by 150%. Great deal. By the time it gets to $5 chips for $7.50 it needs to be something I really want.

But how about 50c chips for 75 cents?

I also leave a card at every table that says I collect casino chips. Never know if they toss it in the trash or if some day they might find a box of old chips and phone me? Cheap advertising.

I have never gone to a coin show that didn't have some casino chips. I don't recal going to a show that didn't have Paulson fantasy chips at some dealers table.

I always have fun!
