As for Harrah's matchbooks, Harrah's PR department used to hand out matchbooks and ashtrays to all the motels in Reno and northern Nevada before they opened their hotel in '69. They'd also tell the motel operators that they weren't interested in taking away their business by building rooms like the bigshots at Harvey's or The Riverside, etc. thereby having another grateful hand to steer customers their way.
