You're right ... Jim, it's solid alright, but 10k is a mixture of other alloys in addition to gold to give it hardness, so it could be solid anything.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that 10k is even 50% gold. If 24k is solid gold, would 12 karat be half the purity?
