No reparations to the US in 100 years?

The US and the Allies imposed heavy reparation burdens on Germany after WWI, which is widely considered to be a signifcant cause of WWII.

Iraq was required to pay reparations to many nations including the US after the first Gulf war. This money was taken out of oil sales.

But reparations aren't the point, the US has always been getting something out its wars (with the exception of WWII which was in fact self defense) otherwise why would the US have been fighting?
