But I'll assume that this was a fluke and NEVER use an undersized holder again.
The damage is perfectly aligned to the impression the chip made in the holder once it settled.
There was yellow dust in the holder (opened it and checked)
and the outer rim (where there would be grooves on a new chip) is smooth - there are NO chips or nicks along the "actual" rim (and I MEAN NONE - the rim is completely smooth all the way around) except where it has extended from the surface/edge damage.
Anyway - it doesn't matter... but I spoke to the person who sent me that chip (we both recall the same details about these chips - including the inserts she used to individually mark different Jerry's $1 variations... and we both agree, the 50c weren't "perfect" but she handpicked through them to get the best she could. She has looked at the scan and agrees she'd not have taken a chip in that condition... and IF she had - she'd have returned it.
