From what I hear on NPR, the protestors during Viet Nam prolonged the war instead of shortened it. They referenced a lot of recently unclassified documents from the President(s), their staffs and the intelligence communities.

Their recommendation... protest any war before it begins. Once the war begins, very little if anything will stop it mid-fight.

If the young lady who is protesting the flag wanted to be productive, she should have chosen another method. She wrote a 250 page press release addressing her concerns, but how many even know what she's said? All we know is she "hates" looking at the flag of her country!
