James, I don't know how rare they are, but I was finally, after many tries able to trade them off for a roulette.
The Santa Ynez chips are of course obsolete, and had many (may still have a few) of the $0.50 chips but I didn't have the $1.00 and I bid on it hoping to get it for your asking price. Then if I can trade the $0.50 for a roulette, I'll really be happy as I will get the $1.00 for $2.00 including shipping--which is in my opinion--is the correct price. But then again, I value all California obsolete chips at $2.00 no matter what the denomination. Maybe now you know why my California collection numbers less than 1,300 chips, a mere pittance compared to you, Mel, Jim's etc.
