The information I have is from people in Elko who did research, using the local newspapers and records, but the dates don't seem the same as currently accepted.
I would like to make a simple timeline of the various casinos, names and owners. That would make a nice line to follow in the future.
As for the Bear vs the Bull, that stood out on first reading. I'm going to write to the author. His research was from the Elko newspaper extra, about the casinos, plus other sources.
Speaking of run down places, I think Deeth beats most of them!
I have a couple of contacts in town, but I know there is a coin, chip, casino, silver strike dealer in town and he's got a better line on things, like straight from the cage, silver strikes. Nice guy by the way.
I know you have found people, more than I, and I haven't even tried the antique shops yet. The oldtimers I have met are the "strong silent" types. Maybe a few more beers will get things cooking?
One guy says he knows someone at Stockmen's. As you know the COmmercial is the same story. Nothing from the vault, and they won't even talk about it. An insider might help, but after many trips, not a single lead on a chip. They have told me, the old chips are in there and I saw one used as a wedge to hold a discard tray for a dealer.
Not much at the Red Lion or Gold COuntry is old, and everything, I mean _everything_ was buried under the expansion of Gold Country, including a lage sum of foriegns from both casions. All the old Red Lion Motor Inn, all the roulettes (except the ones found afterwards that I got) all the old tokens, all the poker room chips, and even the 50c purple 8 pips from GC that were discontinued when the new manager came in years ago.
I know you found some oldie / goodies last trip. Keep plugging. Someone else got the Bill and Dans. The H&C Ranchinn $1 are offered on eBay constantly, The $5 and $25 horseshoe mold Ranchinn have always been fairly easy to find. I found about ten (don't have them yet) Crumley Hotel roulettes in worn, almost no HS condition.
I'd just love to find a Pioneer, or better yet, an old Oasis! Wishful dreaming...
