I've noticed that there are several c&s made by the USPC that have burgees depicted on the inlay. Many times one of the burgees is from the New York Yacht Club. The second burgee usuually belongs to the owner of a yacht (a member of the NYYC). Because these chips were privately owned, very few are owned by collectors. Also, normally only 300 to 400 of all colors combined were ever made.
The chips in the scan were owned by Wall Street tycoon Edward F. (E.F.) Hutton. The chips came out of the Hutton estate (Mar-a-Lago) in Palm Beach, FL.
LLoyd's Register of American Yachts (1940) verify's the "H" burgee was owned by Hutton.
I would like to trade a few sets or even sell a couple of sets to help defray the cost of the "find". I am pretty sure that I have the few chips that exist. I'm betting some were used for skeet shooting off the back of the yacht (probably the "HUSSAR", the yacht that E.F. gave to his wife Marjorie Merriweather Post).Although not a Bugsy, I bet these chips were played with by Hutton and the likes of Rockerfeller, DuPont, Roosevelt, etc. Of course I'm sure E.F.'s daughter, Dina Merrill, had her hands on dad's chips on one time or another.
