Re: Dies and Molds

Is there a site or a book that explains the actual manufacturing process for "clay" chips? I can understand how Bud Jones injection molded chips are made. I can gat a real good idea how Chipco makes chips. The cheaper chips like Mermaid mold and Langwirthy or other plastic company chips are pretty straight forward... Even the new H&C and other chips have the graphic inlay pressed into the chip, as a part of it. (not glued on like the older types)

But how would a simple Arodie or old C&J be made? Especially the inserts, pie or the metal center Paulson? It looks like it was a hand process for anything that isn't a plain color chip.

They look like they are first cut into rolls, of soft material, then the notches are cut away for the inserts. These are filled in with something of the same consistancy. I'm imagining this would all be done while the chip was some soft material.

The chips would be cut, like slicing a summer sausage, making blanks.

Finally the chip is pressed in the mold, and somehow cured.

It appears that the older chips have glued on inlays, while new ones, they are part of the molding process. The new chips seem to be more plastic on construction than the older chips.

OK so there's my guess, what are the facts? grin
