Chevy Chase says to Jane Curtain, "Jane you ignorant..."
I'd say you are none of the above, the S word, the other S word nor ingnorant.
You figured out the puzzle by looking at the pieces.
First off you need to recognize that Rene can't talk straight. He has a need to waffle and waver, then double talk and finally blame us for pointing out his fabrications and scams.
(now he'll say I hate him and I'm part of some conspiracy. Booo Hoo, not true. I don't hate Rene, I hate what he DOES and the crap he tries to pull on collectors.)
In his own words and messages he has clearly pointed out that "WE" allow people on the list and many dealers and NIS people have what they reserved in advance. That all you have to do is email him and get on the list. Why he doesn't just say that he runs the program for the casino, and keep it simple, is beyond me.
Rene in his own messages says that he has three racks of $1 chips (that's 300 for most of us) but later claims he only took 5% of the issue. 300 is clearly 24% of all the chips. So he contradicts himself once more.
Didn't anyone figure out why Rene knew the new rule for chip issues, the agent and when it was going to effect? Because he Controls the chip issues for at least one casino, if not more.
Here's the problem. A conflict of interest as I see it. The person who has a hand in the design and distribution, the one who decides who will get chips, and how many (based on previous orders, if you want to know) is also a chip dealer that seems to end up with the balance of the issue.
The three buck chep on the web, such a service. But $3 for shipping? Last time I mail someone a chip, it was 64 cents. Add in something for the padded mailer and it's still under a buck. Since it's only fair that a dealer make a small profit... oh wait, triple the face value, the cost is already the profit, but now Rene is padding the profit with excessive shipping charges. Six dollars for a $1.00 chip that he manipulates and controls, is in my opinion, unethical behavior, detrimental to the chip hobby and the club. (anyone read the club code of ethics lately?)
This is not a personal issue. If it was anyone else, and it has been (that's another story) I would stand up and say the same things.
The fact that Rene can't give a straight answer, contributes to the problems. He could just speak out in a forthright manner and the long thread below would be nothing, but a couple of questions and a couple of answers. Done deal.
STUPID. I'll tell you who's stupid, to answer your question Jill. The people who defend Rene, because "all he's done for the hobby", or because he runs a show. The people who say we should just ignore him and it will solve the problem are part of the problem as well.
Rene can brag that he has been a member for seven years, but I can tell from observation, he's been a thorn in the side of the hobby and the club, since day one.
Ever notice how people have debates and disagreements, but deal with the issues and points of disagreement. Ever notice how sometimes we can disagree and the next week, it's all blown over. But with Rene, as soon as one storm is created, passes and it looks calm, he manages to stir up something new or pull some new stunt to try to fool all us "stupid" people...
Last of all, age in the hobby, does not make one smarter or better than others or new members. I use myself as the perfect example. I like collecting, but basically, if it wasn't for the chip board and people who post good information, I'd be even more of a chip dummy! Claiming longer membership makes one smarter, is also an example of stupid. (guess who?)
