Getting $1, 25c, 50c or $2.50 chips is much harder than anything else. $1's can be bought with ease, even at $5 tables. I usually look for one that isn't being played, or isn't busy.

Some places will sell you chips off the tables. Since you only need a small number, ask for a dollars worth of 25c (maybe $2?) or a few bucks worth of 50c. I don't think they would like it if you asked for $10 worth of 25c chips, since they cost more than that to make.

With luck you might find a friendly dealer who will sell you $10 worth of $2.50s and that's a nice even four.

But the point is, $5 are easy, anything higher just takes more cash. $2.50 and down might take a little more talking or playing the game.
