Baccarat chips tend to be oversized in an effort to add a poshness (elegance) to the game by being different.

This is not a requirement (at least in Nevada) and many places offer baccarat while using regular sized chips (checks).

Chips with a face value are called checks, while chips without a face value are called chips. Therefore, roulette chips (without a value) are chips.

I don't know if "cheques" are also "checks" and vice versa.
