I made it to the private Grand Opening party for Sapphire, the new $30 million topless club. Parking down the road on Friday night because the lot was full, I was already disappointed at having to walk a half mile in the cold with my wife complaining (legitimately) about her heels. Once we entered around 10:00, it felt more like a dance club than a strip club, and felt as though they could have used another day or two to get things together. Don't get me wrong. It's a beautifulclub, and it's owned byt he folks who own O.G., so I have no doubt they'll pull it together. But it's too big and corporate for me, and since I doubt i'll ever get to enjoy the stadium-style skyboxes, they didn't impress me. Worse yet, there was no nudity scheduled until midnight, so we decided to leave.
On the way out, we passsed a few friends who dance at O.G., and they dragged us back inside. I'm glad they did because the L.A. all-star cover band CAMP FREDDY (Dave Navarro, Donovan Leitch, Billy Morrison, Matt Sorum, etc) soon took the stage to perform. A boatload of rock stars (Slash, Duff McKagen, Tricky, Wes Scantlin, etc) joined them for the incredible set. The night was beginning to turn around.
I later bumped into Tricky on my way back from the bar, and he decided to be my new best firiend. I introduced him to my crew, and he obviously appreciated the ladies. He invited us in his limo to hit the after-parties at Bellagio.
Personally I hate the club Light, but it wasn't bad walking in with Tricky and Slash. Also go to hang out with Duff a little.
Sapphire out-does Jaguar on the upscale strip club ladder. If you're looking to blow thousands of bucks to impress some clients, it's probably the place to go. i for one will stick to O.G.
