The story as I have heard it here in San Diego on the Viejas brass cores is that a customer tossed a chip at another customer at the table and came close to taking out an eye, the casino was concerned about liability so took the chips off the tables. Today they are said to still rest in the casino vault. On ocassion they use some of them as promo giveaways, a few came out that way last year None are sold.,
