Yet the most successful period of this campaign was accomplished without legislation. It was education, not laws, that was most effective at getting people off tobacco.
Do you think the price going through the roof had any effect? I think it made MANY people try harder to break the habit or at least cut down, making a big impact.
The Netherlands had a DECREASE in marijuana use when they legalized it. The reason is specualtive, but one theory is that by decrinimalizing, you take the glamour out.
I've heard that but don't buy it. Pro-drug people have beaten that one to death (and the marijuana for medicinal use one too)
Addiction is terrbile. But people with an addictive personality will always find something to which they will become addictive
If so, I think an addiction to Diet Dr. Pepper would beat being addicted crack cocaine.
THe vast majority of drug users DO NOT become addicted.
Yea, I said that too during my 35 years of pack+ a day smoking. "I can quit any time I want, I'm not addicted." It's a favorite among Alcoholics too! Pretty lame argument.
Most experiment at some point in their life and ten give it up.
Then they are not really users yet.
And let's not forget that if you enjoy any of the arts, especially muic, you are constantly enjoying the by-product of drugs. Drugs (legal and illegal) have been incredibly inspirational in the arts for centuries.
That is correct BUT, That's a pretty small sliver of the pie for music as a whole! I admit for Rock and Roll it is a huge piece of the pie. Drugs have been scattered in most all proffessions over the centuries, but it is not the catalyst for success.
Again, I don't see the virtues of widespread drug use in my childrens schools or my community. People don't drink responsibly, what makes you think they would use drugs responsibly and not kill you on the highway? Want your pilot to do a couple of rails before take-off? Sure no problem! Al, if you believe that your are as blind as Ray Charles!
