I remember reading somewhere that in Japan, all candidates running for office spend more time talking to individuals and banging on doors than anything else. If I remember correctly, they send out postcards to solicit votes and by law are limited to spending no more than the equivilant of $50
Unfortunately we are a country of excess and waste.
