I really hate to stir up the pot but this "repairing" and "modifying" of chips seems to have gotten out of hand. I know that I don't want to buy an expensive chip only to discover that it has been repaired and sold as an original. While the code of ethics can't currently touch Dave Whalen since he is not a member, I am beginning to wonder what, if anything, should be done to the current club members that he is doing the work for. If they are having chips repaired for their own collection that may be OK. But if they are reselling them and not releasing the information that the chips are repaired then some action may be warranted. The code of ethics states:

6. Not to sell, exhibit, produce nor advertise counterfeits, copies, reproductions or restrikes of any item unless their nature is clearly indicated as such.

I don't know if this rule covers such behavior or not but I think that the mass repairing of chips needs to stop. If you think about it, the reselling of these repaired chips without identifying them as such is no different than the reason Mel was removed from the club. I am not looking to start a witch hunt but to the stop the repairs themselves.
