If you think that the homeless are sitting there because they want the sweet reward of Renee's free burger, you're downright crazy. But you know what, the fact that you use the word "bum" to describe someone who has done you NO HARM and who is asking nothing from you, simply because you object to someone else treating them with kindness says a lot about you.

If I didn't know you (from your posts at least) to be a halfway decent guy, i'd assume you are just a hateful man. Since I do know you to be a decent man, I can only assume you are suffering from that basic human condition which refuses to utter the words "there but for the grace of God ..." because you fear they will detract from your achievements.

Are you afraid that to lend a hand to those in need will lessen your own accomplishments? Are you unwilling to admit that maybe you had it easier than some people? Are you so sure that, given the EXACT SAME upbringing, you would have done any better than the people you insult? (And yes, "bums" is an insult!!!!!)

You know what, teaching a man to fish is definitely far better than giving him a fish. But most people who claim to want to teach him to fish DO NEITHER!!! Rene is asking those who want to to try to make people's life better for just one day. If you want to make an offer to get people on this board to volunteer to tutor poor community college students, or spend time as a Big Brother, or (as you so simply put it) "offer them a job for a day" -- then by all means, go out and encourage it. But WHO THE F*** ARE YOU to do nothing (at least in this regard), and then tell others that their kindness does more harm than good.

I guess this is just one more thing we're gonna have to discuss over drinks.
