If all you plan on doing is taking a trip or two to casinos off the strip--a taxi is a lot cheaper. I've been renting cars since 1975 and frankly hardly use them. I don't know whether they have hour rental cars in Vegas but this type rental is popping around the stattes. You can get to the Rio (right across the street) by van from Harrah's and to the Orleans and Gold Coast (also just across the street from the Palms). There are busses and jitneys that will take you down town cheaply. I think Sam's Town has a van to and from the strip. We rent a car because we like to travel to Laughlin, Boulder, Mesquite, etc.
