Yes I have seen these little wonders! Nice too. I even have helped many friends purchase them.
Yet laptops do not help when you are in areas that do not have either access to an outside network, nor the proper "paperwork" to connect to the network.

Yes, there is the phone line at the various hotels, yet that this also assumes that one is in the hotel room for more then just a few hours that is needed for sleeping...
