I have to admit I am a bit uninformed about this issue but I would agree with this sentement. On what grounds is the club no longer in control of the logo? Has someone or some entity appropriated it and the club now has no recourse since it wasn't tradmarked or copyrighted? Is it just a matter that the club needs to make such protection official.
I am happy with the logo as it is. It is valuable in that it is rooted in the historical establishment of the organization. If it is just a matter of the members being more diverse now in their collections I would feel that it is not really necessary. If it is that we must change to something of a more controllable identity than we should do what we need to to preserve the integrity of the clubs identity.
