Something New I've Found

Armorall Cleaning Wipes. I get such good results with the Amorall Multi-Purpose Auto Cleaner that I thought I'd see if the wipes were any good. For all the newbies, Do Not Use Auto Cleaner On Hotstamps as it will wipe them out! The wipes are great for older HS chips that you wish to spruce up while keeping some patina and don't wish to risk to strong cleaners. I used it on the Chauffers Union TR King but didn't touch the HS, just keep the wipe flat with your finger tip and it will perserve the color of the stamping. I did use a wipe to clean the actual hotstamp on the Gardena Club and was quite surprised and pleased at the result. Using great care and patience I was able to get the dirt off the foil coloring with no degradation of the existing stamping. The scan doesn't do justice to the clarity of the cleaned HS. Had only intended to get the considerable "nickel juice" out of the small crowns and dashes but noticed the effect on the dirty HS. Considering the effect of the Auto Cleaner on hotstamps I would guess that you could ruin a HS with the wipes if you get too enthusiastic. The 26diamond Grove chip showed no real improvement with the wipes but considering the superficial nature of the hotstamp I won't be doing any further cleaning on this one.
