A lot of casinos, most of which are responsible to their stockholders, cut labor considerably after 9/11. I think that a lot of the people who have not been called back are just due to permanent reductions the casinos made. It is common that when times are very good that companies get "bloated". The hard lessons of the 1980's proved that when times get tight you need to get rid of the excess as quickly as possible. Almost everyone I talked to during the convention said that business was almost back to normal yet I ran into several dealers at hole-in-the-wall casinos who were previously at nice Strip casinos. I doubt that they will get their jobs back anytime soon.
