Interesting observation and introspect

I was thinking... (yeah, yeah...I know....dangerous activity) and its funny what it is about chips that trips my trigger.

Ive come to the conclusion that i greatly enjoy different chips for different reasons.

I love old Las Vegas and old Nevada chips. The ones with history and a story. No fancy pictures on the chips. No fancy chipcos or BJ's...just simple chips steeped with history.

I love obsolete chips. Theres something about holding a chip from a casino thats gone. Long gone is even better.

I love $1.00 chips from all places in the entire world. This...is just a simple thing of: if I dont have...I want it. It may be only worth a dollar..but hey...its a chip!

Then there are chips from exotic places. Far away lands. Again...something mysterious and out of the ordinary.

I love the HR rock chips. Self expanitory.

I love the Hollywood Park (CA) Chinese New Year Chips" You know the beautiful metal core chips with the "Year of the Horse, etc.: What a classy chip!

Then we have some chips that just tickle my funny bone. There are only a few of these so far in my collection. Actually 3 sets so far that i have seen. They are complete with a humorous concept and equally humorous artwork. These...hold a special place with me. Because...throughout my entire life...(yes, thats right...here it comes)....humor has always brought a smile to my face. Besides the pun, I am anything but a sullen man. I love humor. And these few chips are near and dear to me. You ask.."Terry, enough already...tell us what the heck the DAmed chips are!" Okay--okay, no need to get snippity!...here they are:

1. The Harrah's Laughlin "But It's A Dry Heat" series. These are my all time favorites. The whole concept along with the skeletons...well they are just too damned funny!! And the artwork is GREAT! I hope they come out with more and more of them! There is a chip I'd collect $100 chips from in a heartbeat!

2. The Ore House Caberet "Prospector/WhoreHouse" series from Reno. These are really cool. They are stackable, and have very funny scenes on each chip. The front and back are opposite views. Front shows the view facing the Girls from the front with the back of the prospector..and the back shows the front of the prspector and the backs for the girls. Oh, did i mention the girls were naked? Anyway, for those that have seen the chips you know what i mean...those that havent, please check out the chipguide's Silver State Treasures pages and take a look!

3. The Crazy Moose. I dont know what the heck stikes me so on these. Maybe its the name, which is darned funny on its own. But the picture of that silly moose holding the cards and that silly grin on his face...well, i just love it!

We all love our chips for different reasons. Hopefully its not just for an investment. If it is...please take a minute, look at your chip binders. Pull some out and hold them, and ask yourselves "what do i like about these"?

I think you'll find, as I have, that you have lots of chips, and love them for lots of reasons. Lots of DIFFERENT reasons.

I feel very lucky that I've discovered this hobby. I'm a bit envious of the folks here that have been into it for years and were able to acquire all those old historic chips at face value or little above. And were able to have so many great chips in their collections.

Isn't it funny how such a little round thing can bring us so much entertainment?
