All the people have their own way of taking the chance. I look at it this way. If I can afford to replace the "lost" item to the buyer. I ship and get the "free" receipt to prove I sent it. Take the chance it get's there. And mostly based on feedback and if I have dealt with them. I will always insure what I can't afford to replace. Regardless of who it is. My auctions also read that it is added (insurance), based on final value, when I consider it "irreplaceable", money or item wise.
To be honest, I almost never bid when the seller says they are not responsible without it. If you can prove you sent it, I am likely to belive you. If you have to disbelieve before you send, there is that chance you may not send it anyway. Truth be told, I have heard of stories where insurance has ended with a double shipment or the buyer getting it for free anyway.
