Any business which loses more than it will ever make, year after year, has got to be a hobby. Any hobby which I collect something, simply because I like the way it looks, not values, can't possibly have anything to do with profit.

Different folks, different strokes. Some of the best dealers are also hobbiests and collectors. Some of the largest collectors don't do much selling.

I don't think one can put the answer to the question of hobby, business, or fun, into a little box that will fit most of the people who collect. Too many variables and personal choices.
