For those not familiar with Mother-of-Pearl -Nacre

(Page 67: "Antique Gambling Chips" - Revised Edition).

Mother-of-Pearl is the interior shell of the pearl oyster; the same substance of the pearls (calcite/calcium carbonate). Its luster results from ridges in which the calcium carbonate deposits.
