To understand early Downtown LV, you have to know what was going on.
"Before the GBC came into being, if you wanted a gambling license in Clark county, Glen Jones was the man to see. He was the sheriff and Chairman of the Clark County Commission of Liquor and Gaming Board. It was not un-usual for Sheriff Jones to be called to an already operating casino. He would fill out the papers on the spot, and you would have an instant license"
Glen charged different people different prices for the license. He was also a part owner in several downtown and NLV casinos. Many casinos were leased to different people at different times depending who had the bankroll and who was in favor with Glen. Benny Binion had leases in a number of different casinos before he finally bought the Shoe.
