To Those Who Are Interested,
Any unofficial gaming that took place inside the Apache Bar was run by Tony Cornero with the unofficial permission of P.O Silvagni the builder and owner of the Apache Hotel. The games would be started at the customers insistence to go along with the drinking and fun. The Hotel was a different portion of the property and NEVER had any form of gaming. Neither did the cafe. To my knowledge no chips were ever issued in the NAME of the Apache Hotel or Apache Casino.
Silvagni would get a portion of the take if the daily game or games got started and proved to be successful. Remember Tony Cornero built and ran "The Meadows" after gaming became legal. The Meadows was near the intersection of Fremont and Charleston. It was a financial disaster! Silvagni did not want any casino or gaming to be owned by him or the Hotel. He had no problem with leasing the games (hence the need for a license)but did not want the problems associated with running a "joint" by himself.
Tony Cornero brought many dollars into the hands of the owner of the Apache Hotel and finally convinced him to lease the space for gaming on a permanent basis. Hence was born the S.S.Rex casino.
In all the research I have done I can find no evidence that the Apache Hotel (or its owners) owned and operated a gaming establishment. It was always leased in one form or another to a third party.
I hope this clarifies why I believe no gaming and or the issuance of chips was ever done by the Apache Hotel. Best, Mr."P"
