Many believe the term "Mint" (to invent, create; fabricate) can be used to describe any manufactured item that's new and in it's original condition (original state of preservation; afterwards); mint state. Webster's likes it, too.

Though I do not especially like using the term, it is widely accepted in many hobbies.

As you and I well know, any uncirculated numismatic piece can look like it has been over the hill and back (bag marks). I don't use this term, either, while describing chips. Gem is another term I stay away from while describing a "real" casino chip.
